Honorable Mention To the One Who Writes with the Same Name Treezaa (T. E. Ballard) Someday, you will look down with your poet heart, after the worms have come, after a long tongue of sexless journey has eaten your bones, devoured a name. You will look down to pages, places I have laid. Your hands will stay at your side, will not rise like my childhood, cover my mouth. Vibrations of word, taste of a palm, forbidden fruit and yet there is no sound we cannot say, you and I. We are the same. I have crawled from a place of in between, from a man who folded my knees taught me to pray. I have written it down bore the weight of a seed. I have become wild tree, thorns and bark, sour and sweet. Roots intertwined with red clay.
